Happiness is Ice Cream

Hi Friends!

Today I am sharing my weekly card post on the Artistic Outpost blog and I decided to create a fun Mixed Media card using the brand new Artistic Outpost March Release stamps, Ice Cream Shoppe and Bottle Caps Background.

I hope you will take the time to visit the Artistic Outpost Blog as well as the galleries for the challenge sites linked above:-)

To create this card:

Cut a piece of ODBDHeart and Soul 6x6 Collection Paper to 4” x 5 ¼”, apply Ranger® Tim Holtz® Picket Fence Distress Stain over the paper, allow to dry and add Brusho® Brilliant Red Watercolor Powder, spritz to allow the color to run over the paper, dry with the Heat Tool, adhere the panel to a piece of Real Red cardstock, trim and mount onto the Basic Black card base.

Ink the images from Ice Cream Shoppe and Bottle Caps Background using Stāz-On® Jet Black Ink and stamp onto Whisper White cardstock.

Use the Big Shot™ with the Our Daily Bread Designs (ODBD) Double Stitched Circles Dies to cut out the Bottle Caps Background, the ODBD Double Stitched Rectangle Dies to cut out the sentiment, fussy cut the girl along with the ice cream cone images, use a Sponge Dauber to apply Real Red Classic Ink to the images and apply Tim Holtz® Distress Crazing Medium (it is hard to see the crazing in the photo but it is there :-)).

Mount the die cut sentiment onto Real Red cardstock, trim and mount onto Basic Black cardstock.

Use a 1 ¼” Circle Punch to punch out one of the Bottle Caps Background images and mount the punched bottle cap image onto the card front, add the fussy cut and die cut images using dimensional foam to finish off the card.

Stamp Sets: BottleCaps Background, Ice Cream Shoppe (Artistic Outpost)

Ink: Stāz-On® Jet Black, Ranger® Tim Holtz® Picket Fence Distress Stains, Tim Holtz® Distress Crazing Medium, Real Red Classic Ink (Stampin’ Up!), Brusho® Brilliant Red

Paper: Whisper White, Basic Black, Real Red; ODBD Heart and Soul 6x6 Paper Collection

Accessories: Big Shot™, ODBD Double Stitched Rectangle Dies, ODBD Double Stitched Circle  Dies, Heat Tool, Sponge Dauber, 1 ¼” Circle Punch

Thanks again for stopping by- hugs and I hope all of you have a fantastic week!

Hi Julie, I enjoyed my visit to the Artistic Outpost blog. Thanks for calling my attention to it. Your card is wonderful! Love the mixed media and also the way you've kept to a very simple colour palette to draw more attention to the images. The background Designer Paper makes me think of the doodles so often found all over the covers (or even inside pages) of many school-girls' books. But the real fun lies with the layered images and the sentiment. (And isn't buying ice-cream akin to buying happiness---albeit short-lived?) Thanks so much for joining us this week for our Watercooler Wednesday Challenge.

So interesting to look at. It makes me stop and think a bit. This is not only a mixed media card, it is a journal entry too! Lovely. Thanks for sharing it with the Watercooler gang.

A wonderful card with so much to look at! I've recently attended a Mixed Media class and loved it. Your card makes we want to do more of it. Thanks for playing with us at the Watercooler this week! I have admired your work for a while - I think the first thing that drew me to your blog was a card you did using Horse Frontier - it is truly awesome!

Wonderful card, Julie! My second weakness, after all things stamping, is ice cream. Thanks for joining us this week at Watercooler Wednesday Challenge. Marsha
