SUO117 Hello There Teen Card

Hi Stampers!

It’s time for the new SUO117 “Just for Teens” Challenge and I decided to create a card using the new hostess set, Time to Celebrate along with a Project Life® by Stampin’ Up! Everyday Adventure project card as the base for the images.

Not sure if a teen would like this card but I think the bird image in this set is so cute!

I was also inspired by the Splitcoaststampers "Try A New Technique" TLC520 Embossing Folder Stamping Challenge- see their gallery here.   I did use the embossing folder to stamp the chevron on the right hand side of the bird image :-)

I hope you will find the time to check the both challenge sites and create your own Stampin’ Up! Teen Card to join in on the fun!

To create this card:
Use the Big Shot™ with the Zig Zag Textured Impressions™  Embossing Folder to emboss a piece of Whisper White cardstock, trim and mount onto a piece of Strawberry Slush cardstock, trim and mount onto the Bermuda Bay card base.
Using the card from the Project Life® by Stampin’ Up! Everyday Adventure set, stamp the bird and sentiment from the hostess set, Time to Celebrate using Memento™ Tuxedo Black Ink.
Color the bird using Stampin’ Write Markers- Bermuda Bay, Crushed Curry and Rose Red (I could not locate my Strawberry Slush marker- oops!) :-).   Use the Crumb Cake Stampin’ Write marker to add shadows around the bird, circle border, arrow and the sentiment box.
Ink the large splatter image from Gorgeous Grunge with Crumb Cake Classic Ink and stamp over the bird and sentiment images.
Ink the interior of the Chevron Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder using Rose Red Classic Ink and spritz with a bit of water.  Create a mask for the circle and sentiment box on the Project Life® card and lay the inked/spritzed part of the embossing folder face down onto the masked card to “stamp” the chevron.
Trim the Project Life® panel and round the top right hand corner using the 3/8” Project Life® Corner Rounder Punch.  Use the 2 ½” Circle Punch to punch out a portion of the top left had corner.
Mount the panel onto a piece of Strawberry Slush cardstock, round the top tight hand corner and remove part of the top left hand corner using the same punches as above.
Create the banner using the Banner Punch punching pieces from Bermuda Bay and Strawberry Slush cardstock as well as the retired Eastern Elegance Designer Series Paper (DSP).
Using a Craft Mat with a Hot Glue Gun, adhere the banners together in an arch form and add the Bermuda Bay Sequin Trim to cover the glued edges.
Using the same papers as above, add a few banners to the lower right hand side of the panel as well.
Mount the panel to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals® and add a few Rhinestones near the sentiment to finish off the card.
Stamp Sets:  Time to Celebrate, Gorgeous Grunge
Ink: Memento™ Tuxedo Black Ink, Crumb Cake and Rose Red Classic Ink; Stampin’ Write Markers- Bermuda Bay, Crushed Curry, Rose Red, Crumb Cake
Paper/Cardstock: Whisper White, Bermuda Bay, Strawberry Slush; Everyday Adventure Project Life® by Stampin’ Up!, retired Eastern Elegance DSP
Accessories: Big Shot™, Chevron and Zig Zag Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folders,  Banner Punch, Rhinestones, Bermuda Bay Sequin Trim

Thanks again for taking the time to visit – I hope that you will join in on in on the fun with your Stampin’ Up! Only creations and create your own “Just for Teens” project!

Creative Blog Hop- Time to Celebrate :-)

Hi Stampers!

Today I am sharing a card as part of the Creative Blog Hop- Sondra Hammond, a fellow SU! demonstator was kind enough to invite me to participate in the blog hop, and if you have not had a chance to check out her post from last Monday, below are the links to her blog as well as two others that are part of the blog hop:

Also, I have invited the talented Karen Barber to be part of the hop and she will be posting her card next Monday, March 2nd , so please remember to check her out as well :-)

I decided to use the hostess set from the 2015 Occasions Mini, Time to Celebrate, to create a card with the CC518 Splitcoaststampers Color Challenge (Baked Brown Sugar, Pistachio Pudding, Crisp Cantaloupe, Coastal Cabana and Hello Honey- I used all five colors) along with the Friday Mashup! FM198 “Up, Up and Away” Themeand Sketch Challenge.

Again, if you have not already done so, I hope you will have the time to check out all of the linked sites- gorgeous creations and inspiration from all!

To create this card:

Using Memento™ Tuxedo Black Ink stamp the balloon and sentiment images from Time to Celebrate onto Whisper White cardstock.

Color the balloon image using Stampin’ Write markers- Pistachio Pudding, Crisp Cantaloupe, Coastal Cabana and Hello Honey and use the Crumb Cake marker to add shadows.

Trim the panel for the balloon and distress the edges using a Distressing Tool.   Apply Baked Brown Sugar Classic Ink using a Sponge Dauber and stamp the large splatter stamp from Gorgeous Grunge using Crumb Cake Classic Ink.

Mount the distressed panel onto a piece of Hello Honey cardstock, distress the edges using the Distressing Tool, mount onto a piece of Coastal Cabana cardstock, distress the edges using the Distressing Tool and mount onto a piece of Basic Black cardstock.

Trim the panel from the Everyday Adventure Project Life® by Stampin’ Up! and emboss the panel using the Big Shot™ with the Chevron Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder.  Distress the edges using the Distressing Tool and apply a bit of Baked Brown Sugar Classic Ink over the embossed area.  Mount onto a piece of Basic Black cardstock.

Use the Big Shot™ with the Woodgrain Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder to emboss a piece of Coastal Cabana cardstock, trim and mount onto the Basic Black card base.

Add the distressed Everyday Adventure panel and mount the balloon image using Stampin’ Dimensionals®.

Trim the sentiment and create the banner using the Hexagon Punch.

Mount onto a piece of Basic Black cardstock, distress the edges using the Distressing Tool and stamp the Gorgeous Grunge splatter stamp with Crumb Cake Classic Ink (“huff” onto the stamp to re-moisten the existing ink from the previous step above).

Mount the sentiment using Stampin’ Dimensionals®.

Create the bow from Basic Black cardstock using the Bow Builder Punch.  Add the retired Basic Black button (with a piece of Coastal Cabana cardstock in the center to mimic the thread) and mount onto the card front to finish off the card.

Stamp Sets: Time to Celebrate (2015 Occasions Mini hostess set), Gorgeous Grunge

Ink: Memento™ Tuxedo Black Ink, Crumb Cake, Baked Brown Sugar; Stampin’ Write Markers- Pistachio Pudding, Crisp Cantaloupe, Coastal Cabana, Hello Honey, Crumb Cake

Paper:  Whisper White, Coastal Cabana, Hello Honey, Basic Black, Everyday Adventure Project Life® by Stampin’ Up!

Accessories: Big Shot™, Chevron and Woodgrain Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folders, Distressing Tool, Hexagon and Bow Builder Punches, retired Basic Black button

The other part of the challenge was to answer four questions, so here we go :-)

1.) Why do you create what you do?

I have been artistic all of my life and love stamping since it gives me a chance to teach others that they can be artistic as well (plus it helps reduce stress :-)).  I have been a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator since 1999 and was not taking the time to create as often as I liked, so in May of 2010, I decided to start participating in weekly challenges.  This allowed me to actually use the supplies and stamps that I had been accumulating over the years and, in August of 2010, I started my free "tutorial" blog.  It truly has been an honor to see the response to the cards that I post and that helps motivate me to continue designing original card designs as well as experimenting with new and different techniques.

2). What are you working on?
I am currently on two Design Teams- SUO Challenges and The Card Concept.  Since these challenge sites are bi-weekly, I can create original designs for my entries on the Design Team and I also create at least three to four additional cards per week.

3). How does your creative process work?
As I mentioned, I like to participate in several challenge sites on the internet.  By allowing myself to limit my choices to specific colors, sketch and/or theme, it helps me narrow down my selections for the creative process.  My mind tends to be a bit "hyperactive" and I am also a perfectionist, so having the limitations helps me focus.  Once I choose a challenge, I think about what stamp sets would be good to highlight and go from there…Not sure exactly how else to describe the process, other than I truly believe that my artistic talent is God-given, so the Lord inspires me to create using the steps above.

3). How does your work differ from others in your genre?
Not sure how to answer this one.  I tend to gravitate towards a Shabby Chic style but also love to participate in Clean and Simple, Clean and Layered, Mixed Media and other styles as well.  Recently I was told that I have an “Elegant Eclectic" Style- not sure if this is an actual stamping style or not, but I tend to agree that I am a bit “eclectic” since my designs are varied (my learning style is Random Concrete from the CynthiaTobias' “The Way They Learn” so I guess “eclectic” fits me-lol!)

Thanks again for taking the time to visit- don't forget to visit Karen Barber next Monday to check out her fabulous design on the next stop for the Creative Blog Hop :-)

It has been an honor to participate in this blog hop, and if you have a a chance, stop by again soon...I will be posting another card tomorrow using the Time to Celebrate set :-)   Have a fabulous day, my friends!!

TCC29 Feel Better Soon Mixed Media Card :-)

Hi Stampers!!

It’s time for the new Card Concept #29 “Get Well” Challenge and I had so much fun creating this Mixed Media card (I tried to keep it a bit simpler but it still has quite a few steps) :-)

The Card Concept is a bi-weekly challenge that has an inspiration photo along with a number of design styles that you can choose from to create your card- Clean and Simple, Clean and Graphic, Clean and Layered, Shabby Chic, Freestyle Collage, Classy and Elegant and Mixed Media.

I was inspired by the bright colors and textures of the crocheted stars...I hope you will have a chance to check out the restof the Design Team projects and create your own project to join in on the fun!

I also decided to incorporate the Splitcoaststampers MIX100 Hue, Tint and Shade Challenge (click here to see the MIX100 Gallery).

To create this card:

Using a palette knife, apply Gesso on a piece of Whisper White cardstock, allowing it to dry (I like to use a Heat Tool to speed up the drying process).

The card is a bit brighter IRL- the glare on the butterfly wings made it a bit difficult to photograph :-)
Once the background has dried, apply various Ranger® Tim Holtz® Distress Stains – Salty Ocean, Picked Raspberry, Seedless Preserves  and Old Paper to a craft mat (spritzing with water), lay the Gesso background face down and pull and twist through the ink on the mat.

Pick up the Gesso background paper, rotate to allow the inks to drain down the panel and dry with the Heat Tool.  Repeat the process until the background is the color and design that you desire (this is a trial and error type process, no right or wrong- love it!!).

Once this layer has dried, ink the background stamp, Script using Tim Holtz® Old Paper Distress Ink and using your fingers to apply pressure to the paper, stamp randomly and partially across the background panel.

Ink the floral stamp from Elements of Style using Stāz-On Jet Black Ink and stamp onto the background.   Add additional color to the floral images using Rexel® Derwent® Watercolour Pencils.

Using the Balzar Designs® Mini Punchenella stencil, apply Studio 490® Wendy Vecchi® Crackled Texture Paste to the upper corner of the panel and heat with the Heat Tool to speed up the drying process.

Once dried add additional Ranger® Tim Holtz® Picked Raspberry and Seedless Preserves Distress Stain and again, allow to dry. Tear the edges of the panel by hand and curl a bit with your finger.

Using the large splatter stamp from Gorgeous Grunge (along with Ranger® Tim Holtz® Old Paper Distress Ink) repeatedly stamp onto the Whisper White card base.

Mount the torn background panel onto the card front on an angle.
Ink the sentiment using Stāz-On Jet Black Ink and stamp onto Whisper White cardstock.

Trim and punch the ends with the Hexagon Punch and mount onto the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals®.

Stamp the butterflies from Papillon Potpourri onto Whisper White cardstock using Stāz-On Jet Black Ink.  Use Stampin’ Write markers- Marina Mist and Pink Pirouette to color the butterflies, punch out using the Elegant Butterfly Punch and apply Mod-Podge® to the butterfly wings.

Once dried, mount the butterflies to the card front (I like to use Hot Glue for better adhesion).

Add the white highlights using a Faber-Castelle® White Pitt Pen marker and add the Pearls to finish off the card.

Stamp Sets:  Papillon Potpourri, Gorgeous Grunge, Elements of Style (retired), Script background (retired)

Ink: Stāz-On Jet Black Ink, Stampin’ Write Markers- Marina Mist and Pink Pirouette Ranger® Tim Holtz® Salty Ocean, Picked Raspberry, Seedless Preserves and Old Paper Distress Stains; Ranger® Tim Holtz® Old Paper Distress Ink, Faber-Castelle® White Pitt Pen marker, Rexel® Derwent® Watercolour Pencils

Paper: Whisper White

Accessories: Elegant Butterfly Punch, Hexagon Punch (for sentiment banner points), Gesso, Balzar Designs® Mini Punchenella stencil, Gesso, Studio 490® Wendy Vecchi® Crackled Texture Paste, Mod Podge®, Pearls, Spritzer Bottle, Craft Mat, Heat Tool and Hot Glue Gun (both optional)

Christmas Sunset- Three Challenges in One!

Hi Again Stampers!

I wanted to share one more card that I created this past weekend for the FabFri57 Color Challenge along with the Poppy Power Power & Spark “The Sky is theLimit” Challenge and the CCC15 Christmas Card Challenge at Splitcoaststampers :-)

The sky on this card reminds me of one late fall evening’s sunset (sorry, I did not have my camera) but tried to recreate the scene using a sponged/masked background :-)

I hope you will have the time to check out the above challenge sites- great designs and inspiration from all!

To create this card:

Using the 1 ¼” Circle Punch, punch out a circle from sticky note paper or scrap paper for the moon.

Place the paper with the opening on a piece of Whisper White cardstock and use a Sponge Dauber to apply Crisp Cantaloupe and Calypso Coral Classic Ink onto the moon area.

Remove the mask and apply the circle mask over the sponged moon.

Create a mask for the hills using scrap paper and using Sponge Daubers, apply Crisp Cantaloupe, Calypso Coral and Real Red Classic Ink to the sky area.

Remove the mask for the hill, reposition to create snow banks and apply Crisp Cantaloupe Classic Ink with the Sponge Dauber.

Re-mask the hill areas and stamp the trees using Memento™ Tuxedo Black Ink.

Use the Big Shot™ with the Window Frame Framelits™ to cut out the image along with another frame from Basic Black cardstock.   Cut the Basic Black frame in half and adhere behind the focal image.

Use the Big Shot™ to emboss a piece of Whisper White cardstock using the Woodgrain Textured Impressions™ Embossing Folder, trim and mount onto a piece of Basic Black cardstock.

Punch the border using the Martha Stewart Deep Edge Garden Trellis Punch from Whisper White cardstock, mount a piece of Basic Black cardstock behind the punched piece and mount onto the embossed Whisper White panel.  Trim and add a piece of ⅝” Basic Black Satin Ribbon.

Adhere the entire panel onto the Crisp Cantaloupe card base and add the focal image using Stampin’ Dimensionals®.

Stamp the sentiment onto Whisper White cardstock using Memento™ Tuxedo Black Ink, trim and add the banner ends using the Hexagon Punch.

Mount onto a piece of Basic Black cardstock (add the banner ends with the Hexagon Punch) and adhere to the card front using Stampin’ Dimensionals®.

Add the snowflakes using a White Gel Pen to finish off the card.
